Leicester City: 2018/19 season review
Player (and signing) of the season
James Maddison. That he was playing in the Sky Bet Championship last season still sounds like a lie because of how smoothly he turned into one of the country’s best at what he does. The 22-year old had a staggering first season, which, if not reflected by his seven goals and seven assists in the league, is evident in the fact that he created 100 chances in the top division – more than any other player.
He was awarded the club’s Young Player of the Season award and rightly so but he should have got the bigger prize as well. This is not to say that Ricardo Pereira didn’t deserve it. He has had a terrific campaign; however, for someone to come from the second division and play the way Maddison did, deserves more recognition.
Flop of the season
As much as it pains to say, Demarai Gray was poor for most parts. He began the season really well and it felt as if he will make those much needed strides forward, but instead of getting better, he waned and waned and waned.
His decision making is still the same, his finishing is still the same and, well, he, in his entirety as a footballer, is still the same. There are big question marks hanging over him and he needs to get rid of them when the season kicks-off again. If he doesn’t improve next season, you would think that’s that for him.
