Is Daniel Iversen the appropriate successor to Schmeichel’s throne?

This style is akin to Manuel Neuer or Marc-Andre ter Stegen: a commanding sweeper keeper who also assists the team in possession retention. A goalie whose distribution starts counter attacks, releases forward players, and can form the base of vertical progression up the pitch.

Daniel Iversen has several of these key attributes, yet he does not yet possess the elite level necessary to take us forward without the other attributes being developed. This is where Schmeichel continues to succeed despite lacking all these attributes himself.

I believe the Danish goalkeeper is great. He is reliable, consistent, and commanding. Therefore, he makes an extremely good cup ‘keeper and could make the cut as a penalty specialist with his physical attributes.

Nevertheless, I do not see the Dane as a long term replacement to the Great Dane. He could do the job, but he would neither improve the position or the flexibility of the King Power side to play in differing systems and styles.

There are two realistic options for the Foxes in my view. First, have the prospective heir as a much more used Ward and bring in a new goalie who fits the bill – such as Illan Meslier or Florian Muller. Otherwise, Leicester have Ward and Iversen in the meantime while they develop either Stolarczyk or Young down the right path.

This summer is where is future is decided. What would you like to see happen with Iversen in the transfer window? Should he join the King Power side, go back out on loan, or be allowed to sign for Preston permanently?
