Welcome to the Foxes of Leicester end of season awards for Leicester City stars, where we will discuss classic awards plus others with some pretty much summing up our season. Let’s start with some novelty categories and then look at the most significant.
Leicester City’s Funniest Player
Jamie Vardy – I think we all knew who this award was going to be, just by looking at the name of the award. The Sheffield-born striker wins it by a country mile for being a cheeky chappy and an all-round legend. Even after being out through injury Vardy has still kept spirits high, even players have opened up on how funny he is.
Most improved player
Daniel Amartey – the Ghanaian defender takes this as although he might not be the best skill wise he has come a long way since the start of the season and as he’s grown in confidence it’s shown in his performances, looking more and more confident on the ball. Amartey has made 25 appearances for Leicester this season including five clean sheets, 90.6% pass completion, 444 passes forward and 88 backwards. Young player of the year
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – another award where we all knew who the player would be. Who else other than KDH? Wesley Fofana was a close second, I would’ve given it to him but because of his injury ruling him out for the majority of the season the Shepshed boy wins it on this occasion. Performance after performance he put in 100 percent every game, chasing balls down and being aggressive, you just love to see it, we have a very exciting young player on our hands and potential future captain.
Most injured player of the year
Wesley Fofana – now this award had a long, long list of contenders, including James Justin who is highly commended after missing 20 games with a cruciate ligament rupture, but due to the French man’s Fibula Fracture sustained in City’s pre-season friendly against Villarreal in August 2021. Fofana has since missed 32 games for Leicester but in his four Premier League appearances has also kept one clean sheet. I am also giving this award to Jonny Evans who sustained two injuries, foot injury and hamstring injury, whilst also missing 13 games. Biggest waste of money
Jannik Vestergaard – the Danish defender has only made ten appearances yet has conceded 16 goals, conceded one penalty, been involved in four games that have been lost.
Unfortunately for Vestergaard, most Leicester fans sat back in fear when seeing him warming up on the touchline during a game or seeing him waiting to be subbed onto the pitch. He became known for having a curse of when being brought on we managed to lose our games. For example, after being brought on against Manchester City at home in the 61st minute, just one minute later Bernardo Silva scored.
Ryan Bertrand has only made four appearances, 21 passes backwards, 65 forward and conceded seven goals for Leicester City this season. As we got him on a free transfer from Southampton, he can’t be the biggest waste of money.
Best player out on loan
Daniel Iverson – George Hirst was strong competition for the Danish goalkeeper but after playing all 46 games for Preston North End and receiving both of their player of the year awards, one voted by fans and the other voted by the players. Whilst Iverson also featured some impressive stops during his loan spell: 128 saves, 13 clean sheets, 40 touches per game and 46 catches.

Goal of the season
Timothy Castagne Vs Brentford – there were a lot of big contenders including the other goal involved in the home game against Brentford coming from James Maddison. However, Castagne’s goal edges it over Maddison’s for me because it was just so out of the blue that even the Belgian right back couldn’t believe he scored!
Player of the year
James Maddison – Leicester’s player of the year goes to the number 10 after he made 32 appearances, nine goals and five assists in the Premier League. Maddison has been key to the Foxes’ midfield making 15 goals and 9 assists in all competitions. There has been an increase in his work-rate and tackling ability since Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall started making a prominent appearance in the starting XI which is good to see as it shows he’s willing and ready to fight for his place in the team, and who doesn’t love some healthy competition.
