UCL: Leicester stars Albrighton, Drinkwater, Mahrez and Vardy shine
Leicester City opened their UEFA Champions League account with a spectacular 0-3 victory in Belgium and sit at the top of group G after round one.
In their inaugural Champions League appearance, Leicester played their best game of the current campaign as a fifth minute goal from Marc Albrighton was then added two by an impressive brace from Riyad Mahrez.
The Algerian has taken a lot of stick so far this season after several performances that had not lived up to his shining star of last season.
However, this looked like the Mahrez of old and the Foxes made a massive statement to bounce back with a European away victory in midweek after taking a 4-1 shellacking at the hands of Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
Following their group topping performance here are the Leicester player ratings.
First Team
Kasper Schmeichel – Great distribution from the back throughout the night, little to do as far as shot stopping. – 6.5
Luis Hernandez – In the wake of Danny Simpson’s weekend injury it was thought that Hernandez might not offer as much in the attacking front. However, his long throw was looks better each game and had Brugge on the ropes. – 7
Wes Morgan – Showed his age with his lack of pace but was a rock at the back otherwise. – 6.5
Robert Huth – The veteran defender hasn’t played in Europe for a decade, but his composure was still in the locker. – 7
Christian Fuchs – A captain like performance when it came to marshaling the troops throughout the match and provided a great outlet down the left flank. – 7
Marc Albrighton – Entered the Leicester history books as the first goalscorer in the Champions League and proved an engine for the side as he rode his moment for the entire match. – 7.5

Daniel Amartey– A much improved performance over this weekend falterings. Had good positioning to help break up Brugge’s attacks. – 6.5
Riyad Mahrez – The Algerian’s best performance of the season to date with a stunning free kick and well taken spot kick. Showed he still has it in the tank when it matters and this could turn his season around. – 8
Islam Slimani – Was responsible for setting up the opening goal and was solid in the air, but he looked off his game after a long layover between action and changing clubs. – 6
Jamie Vardy – His pace set-up the Mahrez opportunities for the second and third goals of the night, was a constant threat and is getting back to his form from last season. – 7.5
Subs
Leonardo Ulloa – Came on for Slimani after the game was all but wrapped up. – 5
Ahmed Musa – Was subbed pace for pace for Vardy, but had little effect on the match. – 5
Demarai Gray – Late sub, not on the pitch long enough for a true rating. – N/A
