Leicester City sign star striker Jamie Vardy to new 4-year contract seeing off Arsenal interest.

Premier League Champions Leicester City continue their summer of intent to keep as many of their core stars as possible. Manager Claudio Ranieri has already signed key defender and club captain Wes Morgan to a new contract and news broke on July 27, 2016 that the Foxes had seen star striker Jamie Vardy put pen to paper on a new deal as well.

According to details from the Independent, the 2015-16 Premier League Player of the Season signed a new contract extension for another four years on £100,000-a-week, in the wake of believed heavy interest from Arsene Wenger and London giants Arsenal.

While it may just seem like Vardy’s new contract was a no brainer, it also shows a true sign of intent from Leicester City and their 2015-16 stars that their Premier League title was not a fluke and they have ambitions to not only remain at the summit but push for even more glory.

Vardy’s 24 goals across the previous season as well as his record setting 11 straight games with a goal have set the bar high for not only himself, but also for his club as they will be targeted by every traditional top six side as their one club to see ousted from the old guard of the Premier League.

Speaking to Leicester City’s official website, Vardy not only was happy to have signed his new deal and settled his foreseeable future, but he was eager to claim that Leicester City have nothing to fear from the addition of UEFA Champions League action:

"“What we achieved last season was beyond what anyone could have imagined, but we’ve got to go again. There’s nothing to fear. We’re defending the title and we’ve got the Champions League to look forward to, so we want to make sure we do ourselves justice.”"

Having represented England in this summer’s 2016 UEFA European Championship the 29-year-old is set to join up with the Foxes this weekend when they face off against current French Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain.

With both Morgan and Vardy now tied up with new contracts, Leicester City must now turn their sights to one remaining major piece of the puzzle, Algerian international midfielder Riyad Mahrez.
