Match Review: Leicester City 0 – 0 Arsenal
By Jake Cursley
Player Ratings:
Schmeichel – 8
Kept a clean sheet for the first time this season and commanded his box with brilliance. Last ditch saves and the occasional sweeping behind the back line was vital for Leicester City today.
Simpson – 7
Had a tough match ahead of him with Sanchez playing on his side of the field, contained the Chilean and kept him relatively quiet throughout the match.
Huth – 7
Played a great game and had some fantastic last moment tackles however his lack of communication with captain Wes Morgan let him down this evening.
Morgan – 6
Had a good game, commanded his back line very well and kept it organised however his lack of communication with parter Robert Huth let him down and almost cost Leicester City their points.
Fuchs – 6
His quick decision making from right back helped the foxes go on the counter attack quickly and as always his long throws offered an alternative.
Albrighton – 7
Looked solid both going forward and helping out the defence when covering for Fuchs, could perhaps have tried to get into the game a little more in the first half.
Mendy – 8
A fantastic league debut for the youngster, it’s a shame he got injured however in the time he spent on the pitch he bought a balance which was missing during the opening fixture against Hull City. He provided great cover for Huth and Morgan, who struggled after he went off injured as Andy King is more of an attacking midfielder than a holding midfielder.
Drinkwater – 7
As Morgan is the leader at the back, Drinkwater bosses the midfield. Yet again he had a fantastic game and looks to set the pace for the foxes when they regain possession of the ball. His passing was slightly off this week however he is vital to this Leicester City team.
Okazaki – 7
As always with Shinji, he worked his socks off. Not perhaps the most talented player with the ball at his feet but his relentless chasing down of the ball and link-up play with forward partner Jamie Vardy means he’s always a nuisance.
Vardy – 7
Another off day for Leicester City’s top goalscorer last season. He ran the Arsenal back line ragged this evening however failed to make it count when it mattered, blasting any half decent chance he had over the bar. His movement off the ball however means that he is vital to this foxes side whether he is scoring or not.
Mahrez – 8
The magician was back on form this evening and his tricks and turns looked to stun the Arsenal defence at times. He was unlucky not to take another penalty this weekend after decisions didn’t go his sides way. Good news for City fans is that he no longer looks distracted.
