Leicester City: The foxes sign Slimani for €30m + €5m in ad-ons

Leicester City have signed Sporting Lisbon’s Islam Slimani for a club record fee of €30m which may rise to €35m when certain events are triggered.

The deal for the 28 year old Algerian has been confirmed following Leicester City’s ongoing interest in the player throughout the summer.

Slimani had a fantastic season during Sporting’s 2015/16 campaign, being involved in 33 goals in 33 games, scoring 27.

The saga has dragged on as Leicester City seem keen on signing Sporting’s captain.

Adrien Silva along with their star striker but the Portuguese team are adamant on keeping him.

Slimani will want to hit the ground running after the international break and will hope to debut against Liverpool in the Premier League a fortnight from now.

Many foxes fans will hope that the 28 year old will settle in fast due to the fact that he has a fellow countryman to aid his move to the East Midlands in PFA ‘Player of The Year’ Riyad Mahrez.

It’s been a tough transfer window for Sporting as they have now lost star striker Slimani along with João Mário and potentially their captain Adrien Silva, should the Premier League champions be successful in their quest to sign him.

Leicester City on the other hand have had a stellar transfer window.

Many expected the foxes to be picked apart as they are a smaller club with many very talented players, similar to how Southampton seem to lose all of their key players and staff every season after a successful campaign.

These worries proved to be false however, with the foxes securing almost all of their key players on new long-term contracts, including Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater, Kasper Schmeichel and the brains behind Leicester’s project, Claudio Ranieri.

Not only have they retained nearly all of their stars, they have also bolstered their squad by replacing N’Golo Kante, who left Leicester City to play his football at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea, with Nampalys Mendy, their first record breaking signing of the summer.

Their second record breaker came in the form of Ahmed Musa, a pacy striker that can also play as winger and potentially the only player in the side that can keep up with Jamie Vardy’s blistering pace.
