Leicester City have been battling the injury bug so far this season and with another all important Premier League match with Southampton beckons we take a look at the latest news.
Since his arrival this summer from Nice, defensive midfielder Nampalys Mendy, whom was touted as the replacement for Chelsea departed N’Golo Kante, but he has hardly had anytime on the pitch.
Mendy showed come of his potential in the second and third matches of the campaign but has been kept out of the limelight as he has been recovering.
This morning on Leicester City’s official website, manager Claudio Ranieri announced that his former Monaco charge was back in training and should be looking for a return to action following the international break but will not be ready in time for Southampton:
"“Mendy has come back,” said Ranieri ahead of Sunday’s clash with Southampton. “Everybody is in great condition.“Today (Friday) he made a normal training session. Maybe he’s not ready to play from the beginning but he’s getting better. I’m sure after the international break he’s ready."
Additionally Kasper Schmeichel is still recovering despite having played in midweek against FC Porto:
"“Kasper [Schmeichel] is okay and he trained very well today. It’s important to forget last season. Everything was fantastic.“All the teams had some injuries and it was important to have a good replacement. [Ron-Robert] Zieler played very well and gave me very good tranquillity. I’m happy.”"
Having already underwent surgery and having dealt with a concussion this season, the Danish keeper is having to be handled carefully to ensure further damage is not done.
Matty James is the only other current squad member that is struggling with injury at the moment as it looks like most of the first team is back to normal.
