With Leicester City’s sputtering start to the Premier League season the Foxes are already believed to be looking ahead at this winter’s potential targets.

One such possible move for defending English Champions Leicester is out of favor midfielder Josip Ilicic of Italian Serie A side Fiorentina.

The Slovenian international could bring some European flair into the middle of the park for the Foxes or also be used on the wings or in a number ten role.

His versatility last season saw him produce 15 goals and seven assists for the Viola, but according to Calcio Mercato, the 28-year-old is out of sorts having not been offered a new deal.

More from Foxes of Leicester

Additionally having only produced two assists so far this season has his current manager Artemio Franchi leaving him out in the cold without a chance to prove himself and earn a new contract.

It would appear that the writing is on the wall for Ilicic.

There is much belief that he has been a long term favorite for Leicester’s Italian manager, Claudio Ranieri who has expressed interest in him before.

This is not the first time that Ilicic has been rumored to be on his way to England as both Liverpool and Tottenham were reportedly interested in him over the summer according to the Express.

It is only right that you would see a player linked with moves to top clubs in the Premier League also being linked with the defending champions.

Ilicic is also a player that should be more in the budget for Leicester as they still do not have the financial muscle that rivals for Ilicic’s signature such as either Liverpool and Tottenham have, let alone the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal or Manchester United.

In the end the more talent a side possess in depth, the greater potential for long term success, and Ilicic could help to bring more versatility to the current Leicester side.
