Leicester City: Claudio Ranieri urges Jamie Vardy to keep calm
Ahead of Leicester City hosting West Brom this weekend, manager Claudio Ranieri has been working hard to keep his star striker Jamie Vardy in a good place.
Last season Jamie Vardy lit up the Premier League setting a new record for most consecutive Premier League matches with a goal eclipsing that of former Manchester United star Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
This season however, the Leicester forward has been enjoy quite the opposite of his purple patch last season with only two goals in 10 games ahead of the weekend and he has not scored since his side were beaten decisively by Liverpool at Anfield in early September.
Vardy’s lack of goals is not the reason that the Foxes have not had as great of a start this season as they did last season, but it is without a doubt that his lack of prowess in front of the net is not helping making things better.
This weekend’s matchup with West Brom should be a great opportunity for the 29-year-old to get on the board as he could likely be saved for a second half appearance to get the most out of his appearance.
Speaking ahead of the weekend in his pre-match press conference as aired on Leicester’s official website, Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri spoke to Vardy’s current frustrations this season:
"“Jamie is a goalscorer and all the goalscorers in the world have good periods and bad periods.More from Leicester City NewsEnzo Maresca hails four star Leicester playersHarry Winks reveals his easy decision to join LeicesterLeicester injury return dates: Coady, Praet, CannonMidfielder’s Leicester contract, Souttar’s vow, international roundupLeicester stars among most valuable in Championship as legend’s rating dropsIt’s important for him to stay calm and, sooner or later, he will start to score again. He is still working hard for the team.”"
The best football the club has played this season is in the UEFA Champions League and at home in the Premier League and Vardy will hope that the home form of the club will continue and that he can make the most of any opportunity to take advantage of it.
At the beginning of last season Vardy was a known speedster, but he was not known as a finisher and poacher that he become throughout the last year and now club’s pay much more attention to him and have made his life difficult.
It is time for the Foxes and their star forward to work on how they can work better together to create more opportunities for him in front of goal and that will certainly lead to more goals and more points in the table.
