Leicester City have failed to maintain their strong form from last season and Ballon d’Or standout Riyad Mahrez claims the Foxes will get back on track.

Last season Riyad Mahrez seemed unstoppable as did his partner in crime, Jamie Vardy. However, this season the star Leicester City Algerian international has been anything but prolific.

A protracted summer transfer saga with Arsenal and then finally a new deal with the Foxes saw Mahrez spend a lot of time dealing with media pressure and people pulling him in every which direction when he really should have been focusing on this football.

Distractions can in many ways be blamed for much of Leicester’s form this season, but after all aren’t they all professionals and should never be effected? You can call Mahrez and company professionals all you want, but you cannot rule out the human aspect of it.

They were a group of great teammates that came together and achieved what many would call impossible and it brought with it a massive avalanche of success and then pressure.

It can be forgiven a bit that his has been a tough title defense for a side that never imagined that they would be where they are now just 16 months ago when the 2015-16 campaign was first starting.

Speaking to the press ahead of this weekend’s match with Sunderland, Mahrez claims that he knows his side will come good and that this is just a down tick that is part of football:

"“It is true it is a little bit tough because we know we’re not winning games but it isn’t as though we are playing badly.More from Foxes of LeicesterEnzo Maresca hails four star Leicester playersHarry Winks reveals his easy decision to join LeicesterSouthampton 1-4 Leicester City: 3 Foxes positives and negativesSouthampton 1-4 Leicester: 3 things learnedPredicted Leicester City starting XI vs SouthamptonLast season we were unplayable and winning every game away from home so that happens in football. We can’t win every time but in a moment like that we see the strength of the squad and the group and we have to react.”"

Mahrez went on to claim that he knows his side can react because they are strong and this is just a part of football and Leicester will be back on form soon:

"“We know we can react and I am confident. Nothing is wrong. It’s just that sometimes in football you can play good and lose.We just need to keep working hard like we are doing and I’m sure we will get the wins.Last season we were champions but now we’re not champions. This season all the teams are hungrier. Everyone wants to win now and everyone wants to beat Leicester so it’s okay.We just have to keep going and I know we will win games.”"

The Sunderland match is a massive away fixture for the Foxes as they desperately need to take some points on the road and David Moyes Black Cats are perhaps the only side on worse form this season than the Foxes.
