Leicester City already have plundered one talent from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon with the arrival of Islam Slimani in the summer transfer window.

Now it appears that Leicester City are once again linked with a second attempted move for Sporting midfielder Adrien Silva.

Claudio Ranieri had targeted the 27-year-old in the summer as a believed replacement for N’Golo Kante but after having a bid in the range of £21 million rejected by Sporting the Foxes were forced to abandon their pursuit.

However, with Sporting failing to get through their UEFA Champions League group as expected, finances could be affected for the rest of their season and they could be forced to sell the midfielder to ensure they have certain funds available.

More from Foxes of Leicester

According to the Sun, Leicester are set to renew their quest for Silva as the Foxes are desperate for a new holding midfielder to drop in next to Danny Drinkwater.

Summer addition Daniel Amartey has failed to live up to expectations and £13 million signing from Nice, Nampalys Mendy, has only made a handful of appearances due to continued injury issues.

Silva could also push to make the move because he wanted a move to England over the summer, but was held back due to Sporting wanting to have him for the European campaign.

With nothing left to fight for in Europe for the Portuguese side, Silva could make a move to Leicester and at least guarantee he has a place in the domestic Premier League and coming FA Cup campaign since he will be cup tied in Europe.

He is expected to be one of two or three targets that Ranieri will be chasing very hard in the January window as the Foxes desperately look to strengthen ahead of the run in.
