Leicester City: Ndidi plays his final game for Genk as he says farewell

Leicester City’s January target Wilfred Ndidi has played his final game for Genk in Belgium prior to his reported move to the East Midlands.

The 20 year old Nigerian has been Leicester City’s number one target this winter as their defensive frailties still remain in midfield following the departure of  N’Golo Kante to the current league leaders Chelsea.

Speculation has turned to certainty following Genk’s 2 – 0 win over Gent on Tuesday night, when Ndidi confirmed that he will be moving to the foxes in the January window.

The club is expected to announce the transfer on 1 January, with a reported fee of £15m for the youngster’s services.

Speaking to Play Sports in Belgium following the victory over Gent, Wilfred Ndidi said:

"“It is true that this was my last game for Racing Genk. Whether I am now emotionally? Yet a little, yes. He especially by the situation surrounding Maes. Has made me the player I am today. I got to my transfer to thank him. ”"

The Nigerian is well loved at his current club, with his team-mates wishing him all the best in the future.

On Instagram, Genk defender Omar Colley wrote:

"“Great victory tonight an good luck to Ndidi in Leicester,we gonna miss you but keep fighting. Get well soon Nikos,we are always with you 💪🏿💪⚽️💙”"

Ndidi’s first match is likely to be against Everton in the league cup on the 7th of January, before then however Leicester travel to Middlesbrough on the 2nd which may be too soon for Ndidi to play as he will not have time to integrate himself into the team.

With the African Cup of Nations looming ahead, foxes fans will be glad to hear that Wilfred will not be joining Slimani, Mahrez, Schlupp and Daniel Amartey in their travels as Nigeria have failed to qualify for the tournament.
