Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel could be on his way out if they are able to finalise a deal for Croatia’s Lovre Kalinic, reports The Sun

Leicester reportedly made an offer in the region of £18 million for the Gent goalkeeper, but the club believes the 27-year old to be worth more than £20 million after the shotstopper was named the goalkeeper of the season. He kept 16 clean sheets in 41 appearances across all competitions.

The Foxes’ chase of Kalinic comes as a result of the uncertainty surrounding Kasper Schmeichel’s future at the King Power Stadium. The Danish international recently completed six years at the club, but he also changed his agent, fuelling rumours that it may well spark the end of Schmeichel at City.

It is believed that he may follow in the footsteps of father Peter Schmeichel – arguably the Premier League’s finest keeper – and go to Manchester United, one of the many club’s interested in landing the 30-year old. The former United player also expressed his desire to see son Schmeichel at Old Trafford. He said:

"“It would be a dream (for Kasper to join Manchester United).“For me, trying to be as neutral and unbiased and not like a father, I think he has done well enough to convince everybody that he can play at the highest level.“The doubts were there when he first went into the Premier League over whether he was good enough, but he proved that and in the Champions League last year I thought he did really well.“That’s what I’m looking at, if clubs need a really good goalkeeper, well he is somebody who can be trusted to do that.”"

While a move for Kalinic may be completed in the coming weeks, Schmeichel’s exit could be way more complicated. As things stand, United already have two top-class goalies in David De Gea and Sergio Romero.

However, shall Real Madrid come calling again for the Spaniard, a scenario that is very likely, Jose Mourinho may quickly turn his attention to Kasper Schmeichel. If not as good as De Gea, he is at least a proven player in England as well as being a Premier League winner. Purpose solved, surely?
