OFFICIAL: Leicester City announce the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho
Leicester City have announced the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho from Manchester City for a fee believed to be £25 million.
The Nigerian becomes Craig Shakespeare’s fourth signing of the summer, which means that the 53-year old has a new arrival to show across all the areas on the pitch.
Iheanacho, who’ll be wearing the no.8 shirt for the Foxes is also the third arrival from his nation, following the signings of Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa last summer.
Speaking to LCFC TV, he said:
"“It feels good and I’m happy to be part of this team. I know the ambition of the team and speaking with the manager, he let me know what I need to do – to help the team achieve what they want. I was convinced and I’m happy to be here.“I was happy speaking with the manager, knowing what the team wants. It gives me more confidence that I will fit in this team and hopefully I’ll achieve a lot.”"
Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare didn’t hold back either, heaping praise onto his new signing. He said:
"“It’s a great signing for us. Kelechi is an enormously talented player that has shown a huge amount of promise at every level in which he’s played.“We’ve tracked his progress for some time, so we know how much quality he’ll bring to the squad. He’s young, he’s hungry, he’s ready for the next stage of his development and I’m delighted that will be with Leicester City.”"
The former Manchester City forward scored nine goals (and assisted three), having only started equally as many games last season. Goals against Manchester United, Southampton, Borussia Monchengladbach and Celtic further prove how good he is and how very good he can be.
Also, the fact that Manchester City have a buy-back clause for Kelechi Iheanacho speaks volumes of the ability he has for someone of his age.
He may not come across as someone who’s very skilful or has all the trickery up his sleeves, but he does know what to do with the ball.
Leicester City fans can now look forward to seeing their own Galactico in action against Borussia Monchengladbach in their side’s last pre-season friendly ahead of the season-opener against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Shakespeare may also want at least one addition at the back as the team faces a shortage of decent options to provide cover for the injured Robert Huth.
