BBC Match of the Day Pundit Danny Murphy has risked the wrath of Leicester City fans, claiming that Riyad Mahrez is too good for the club.

The Algerian was in sensational form against Brighton and Hove Albion, assisting both of Leicester City’s goals as they sailed through to their first win of the season.

Mahrez’s display was arguably one of the best that he has put in a Foxes shirt, as he didn’t just create, but showed off all the skills that he has up his sleeves. He simply was breathtaking.

Having seen him do the stuff of magic, BBC Pundit Danny Murphy could barely hold himself back. The former Liverpool midfielder said:

"‘I say this risking criticism but he’s too good for Leicester now.“He’s playing so well, with such confidence, skill and creativity he needs a bigger stage. And he needs to play with better players to see how good he can become.“He’s had a fairytale at Leicester and they’ve done tremendously well and given him the platform.“But he should be playing regularly in the Champions League and showing us his talents.”"

Riyad Mahrez has been the subject of speculation all through the summer after he released a statement stating his intentions to play for a bigger club.

Since then, he has been linked to a number of clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, AS Roma and Barcelona, of which, only Roma have made a formal approach and failed.

The Serie A outfit have had four bids rejected by Leicester City, the latest being in the region of £36 million, though it was well short of City’s valuation, which is understood to be £50 million (and rising).

With about a couple of weeks remaining before the transfer window is shut down, Riyad Mahrez may still be on his way out, but it’s still not clear as to which side would want to pay City’s price. Could Arsenal reignite their interest? Well, Arsene Wenger’s an admirer.
