Leicester City beat Sheffield United by an emphatic 4-1 to seal their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup, as Islam Slimani, Demarai Gray and Ahmed Musa all got their names on the scoresheet. Here’s what we learned from their win at Bramall Lane:

Islam Slimani reminds Craig Shakespeare of his unique abilities

No one really thought we’d ever say this, but it was a night that belonged to Islam Slimani, whose brace was a true reflection of the kind of striker he is: A target man, Leicester City’s own Olivier Giroud.

The Foxes’ record signing, it’s arguable, did justice to his price tag for the first time, burying the two chances that he got; but for the referee’s wrong decision, he could have got his first hat-trick too. Depredated.

There’s no doubting the fact that Slimani offers Leicester City that little something that you don’t get with Jamie Vardy, and in games where the opposition tends to sit deep, he is your man. Think twice before you sell him, Shakey.
