Leonardo Ulloa has signed a contract extension with Leicester City, keeping him at the King Power Stadium till 2019.

The Argentine was expected to bid farewell to the King Power Stadium this summer, having endured a torrid time with the club after a failed deadline day move in the January transfer window.

The former Premier League winner had all but sealed a £7.5 million transfer to relegation threatened Sunderland before it all fell apart. However, Ulloa pledged to be professional, and it seems his behaviour has impressed Craig Shakespeare.

Leicester were resigned to lose the striker before the gaffer gave him the sort of guarantee that he had been looking for under Claudio Ranieri. It is claimed that a fallout with the Italian was one of the reasons why Ulloa wanted a transfer.

As many as three Spanish clubs, namely Getafe, Levante and Real Betis were monitoring his situation, but none of them made a formal approach.

The 31-year old had a year remaining on his current deal, and having signed an extension, he’ll be now contracted to Leicester City till 2019.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Ulloa said:

"“I am so happy because I have lived massive moments with this Club and it makes me happy to stay here and fight to help the team and increase the Club’s history. That is so important and I am so happy for this two-year contract. Now I have to fight to play. I will train and give my best. I appreciate it a lot to stay here and I am so happy here now. For that, I want to continue in this in the same way by working hard and working my best for the Club.”"

It’ll be interesting to see whether Craig Shakespeare can now keep him happy for a long time. Leonardo Ulloa isn’t the kind of prolific forward that you can play every week (20 goals in 96 appearances), so it’s obvious that he’d be used sparingly.

Even then, however, he’ll have to fight Islam Slimani, who is arguably the best “target man” type striker in the side. The two recently featured for Leicester City in the 4-1 win over Sheffield United.
