West Bromwich Albion reject Leicester City’s Jonny Evans bid
West Bromwich Albion have rejected a £21 million bid for Jonny Evans from Leicester City, according to Sky Sports.
Evans is one of a number of options that Leicester City are looking at to strengthen at the back, and have already bid £10 million for him in the summer, but their offer was rejected by the Baggies.
Leicester aren’t the only side to be interested in the 29-year old’s services, as Manchester City have shown a strong liking for him too. It is understood that West Brom have rejected at least one offer from City as well, meaning that they may well be wanting something around £30 million for the former Manchester United player.
Pep Guardiola’ side are still believed to be the favourites to sign the Northern Ireland international, chiefly because of West Bromwich’s desire for a swap deal involving Eliaquim Mangala.
Jonny Evans didn’t feature in his side’s 1-1 draw against Stoke City, further hinting that a move is very much on the cards. However, in his programme notes for Sunday’s game, he made it clear that he remains committed to the club for as long as he stays.
"“Obviously, there’s been a bit of speculation around my future here but from my point of view, it’s very simple.“All I’ve been concentrating on is getting fit and getting back out on the pitch and doing my bit for the team.“Every window there’s always speculation over transfers but as players these things are often out of your control and it’s best not to think about it too much.“Until anybody tells me different, I’m only committed to Albion and I’m only thinking about getting in this team. It’s a great club and I’m proud to be captain.”"
Leicester City seem very likely to miss out on Jonny Evans because of who they are competing with and West Bromwich Albion’s asking price on top of that. As we have seen throughout the summer, Craig Shakespeare has been a stubborn negotiator completely unwilling to overpay for any of his targets, and that shall continue to be the case.
Who else can Leicester City look to sign?
