Leicester City are reportedly looking to bring in Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool, reports the Leicester Mercury.

City are badly in need of another centre-back to partner Harry Maguire with both Wes Morgan and Robert Huth now ageing, and it’s understood that Liverpool’s Sakho has emerged as one of a number of options they are looking at.

The 27-year old has been a controversial figure throughout his time at Anfield, having breached the club’s code of conduct on several occasions. Obviously, his antics haven’t least pleased Jurgen Klopp, who wants him out and soon.

Mamadou Sakho spent half of his last season at Crystal Palace on loan, helping them avoid relegation. The Eagles are said to be keen on a permanent move, and Sakho is keen on staying in London, meaning Frank De Boer’s side are in pole position for his signature. West Bromwich Albion are also among the candidates to land him.

However, as the Reds seek £30 million for their unwanted man, any deal may not be easy to get over the line, so it remains to be seen if Leicester City will register a formal interest at all.

Among the other defensive targets are West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson. While a £21 million bid for Evans has already been rejected, Middlesbrough’s asking price for Gibson has meant that Leicester City won’t move for him.

Another centre-back that Craig Shakespeare has his eyes on is Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, who hasn’t been the subject of interest from any other club all summer despite his reported availability.
