Liverpool will be traveling to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City in the round of 32 of the Carabao Cup on September 20

The draw for the third round of the EFL Cup, now known as the Carabao Cup, was held last week and there are several juicy looking matchups in the competition. There are a few Premier League clashes that stand out including one that pits Manchester City’s mercurial attack against the pragmatic Baggies and their track suited manager Tony Pulis.

Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal all get relatively easy draws with matches against lower league opposition but we know things can always get a little crazy in the League Cup. Leicester City though have been handed a difficult draw in Liverpool which may very well be the glamor tie of the round.

Liverpool will travel to the King Power on September 20th hoping to avenge their dramatic loss to Southampton in the semi-finals last year having been shut out by a stubborn Saints’ defense over two legs.

More from Foxes of Leicester

The tie was indicative of Liverpool’s struggles to break down teams that sat back against them though they should have little issue doing that this season with all of the upgrades they made to their front line. They are still a bit shaky at the back but their attack may be enough to carry them in most matches.

Last season Leicester City were handed another difficult draw as they faced eventual Premier League champions Chelsea in the round of 32 and were defeated 4-2 after extra time. The Foxes took a two goal lead in the first half thanks to Shinji Okazaki but were eventually defeated thanks to a foolish red card from Marcin Wasilewski though the tide had turned before he was sent off.

Craig Shakespeare will likely be focusing on the Premier League and hoping to get back in to European compeition and so may play a younger team against Liverpool but the same can be said about Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds are in the Champions League for the first time in several years and will be devaluing a secondary competition like the EFL Cup as a result. Either way this should make for an exciting match packed full of action and goals!
