Leicester City: Riyad Mahrez leaves Algeria national team to finalize transfer
Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez has been released from the Algeria national team squad in order to finalize a move to another club
Well it appears that the time has finally come. After months and even years of speculation it appears that Riyad Mahrez is on his way out of the King Power Stadium. The winger was released from the Algerian national team in order to finalize a transfer.
If this was just a report from a media outlet it could have been dismissed as speculation and perhaps the winger was leaving for personal reasons or because he picked up a knock in training.
However this bit of news has been confirmed by the Algerian national team on their verified Twitter account:
You can be excused if you do not read French so we will go ahead and translate it for you. The tweet, from the national team’s official account says, “@Mahrez22 AUTHORIZED TO GO FORMALIZING ITS TRANSFER TO HIS NEW CLUB”.

Why the need for all-caps we will never know but they clearly knew that this was big news for fans of Riyad Mahrez both in Algeria and in Leicester.
Mahrez has quickly become one of the more exciting players in the Premier League and his instrumental role in leading Leicester City to the Premier League title garnered him fans all over the world.
These fans of course included the big clubs around Europe who, if the rumors are to be believed, have been sniffing around the winger since Leicester made their way to the top of the table.
If the Algeria national team account is to be believed then the resolve of the Leicester City board has been worn down after holding on to him for several transfer windows now. We have no idea yet as to where he is headed but the major news outlets have suggested he is on his way to Barcelona. The Spanish giants would have an extra day to complete the deal as the transfer window in Spain closes on September 1st rather than August 31st.

The move makes sense for them as he could be a natural replacement for Neymar and could be ready to contribute perhaps even sooner than their latest transfer purchase in Ousmane Dembele. This is clearly a developing story so stay tuned as we learn more on the impending deal.
