Arsenal have rejected a £20 million bid from Leicester City for Calum Chambers.

Leicester are looking to add some steel to what has been a fragile defence so far, but have failed to get any deal for a defender over the line, Calum Chambers being the latest name on the list.

Craig Shakespeare has been tracking his situation for some time, and as per the reports, the England international had been told that he was free to leave Arsenal if the right offer came.

Earlier in the summer, Crystal Palace were believed to have a strong interest in the 22-year old’s services; however, the £27 million price tag slapped upon him by Arsenal meant that they were put off.

Of course, that makes Leicester City’s current offer look rather silly, but as it turns out, the Gunners no longer want to sell him as Arsene Wenger now sees him as a major part of the squad.

Calum Chambers signed for Arsenal in their heavy-spending summer of 2014 for £16 million, making 36 appearances across all competitions that season, but since then, it has been a different story for him.

The centre-back was loaned out to Middlesbrough last season, and his stint there has somewhat rejuvenated him. He made 27 appearances was a Boro, putting a number of decent performances for a side that struggled to get going all campaign.

There’s still some time to go before the transfer window shuts down, so maybe, Leicester City can still try and get a deal done for Calum Chambers, if indeed they are serious about his pursuit. Every player has his price and Chambers does too.
