Demarai Gray is expected to sign a new deal for Leicester City in the next 48 hours, manager Craig Shakespeare has told.

The 21-year old has cut a frustrated figure in recent times because of a lack of minutes under his belt. Craig Shakespeare has mostly used him as a substitute since his arrival, and this season has been no exception in that respect.

However, much to the surprise of pretty much everyone, Shakespeare has now told that Gray could sign a new deal very soon, as he is an integral part of the club’s future.

The 53-year old said:

"“I am hopeful that will be concluded very soon,” said Shakespeare when asked about Gray’s contract by the media today.“I am hoping within the next 24 to 48 hours.“Demarai is part of this club’s future. He is one we want to improve with us and it shows the stance we want to keep our best players.”"

The England U-21 international hasn’t been short of offers in recent times, having been linked to Everton, AFC Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur.

An obvious lack of playing time has been something of a pattern since his move to Leicester City from Birmingham City back in January 2016. The 21-year old has made 48 Premier League appearances so far, though he has started a mere 10 games.

With every game passing by wherein Gray comes off the bench for a 10-minute cameo, Leicester City are further losing their grip over a player who does indeed deserve more playing time. Don’t be surprised if he’s the first man out of the King Power Stadium, come January despite signing an extension.

Demarai Gray may get his wish sooner rather than later, however, with Riyad Mahrez looking very likely to be dropped against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday. The Algerian started the season well, though he has been below his own high standards in the past few games, particularly in the 2-3 defeat to Liverpool.

There’s your chance, Demarai.
