FIFA have rejected Leicester City’s appeal to register Adrien Silva, landing a telling blow on the Foxes’ hopes for the rest of the season.

Add to that, Leicester would now to have to pay the wages of a player who can’t even train with his teammates, let alone playing till January, which is when he’d be registered.

The East Midlands outfit were handed an extension by FIFA to complete the transfer on Deadline Day; however, City couldn’t complete the paperwork on time as they missed the deadline by 14 seconds.

Even though the FA intervened, FIFA were in no mood to change their decision. An official statement read:

"“The petition made by the Football Association for permission to request the International Transfer Certificate for the player Adrien Silva and subsequently register the player for its affiliated club, Leicester City FC, is rejected.”"

Craig Shakespeare had also hoped to see Silva being called up to the Portugal squad to face Andorra and Switzerland, but the UEFA Euro 2016 champions later confirmed that he hasn’t been selected, further adding to the former Sporting Lisbon star’s and his side’s misery.

His absence may well prove extremely tough to deal with, as Leicester City’s midfield problems continue to burgeon. Danny Drinkwater already gone, they don’t have that driving force in the middle of the park anymore.

It’s clear that Matty James and Wilfred Ndidi aren’t the answer, and Vicente Iborra alongside the latter won’t create much either, even if he does strengthen the side.

Currently placed 17th on the Premier League table, Shakespeare probably has one last international break to sort the mess at Leicester City out. Now winless in five league games, he better be very quick or, well, you know.
