FIFA’s decision to block Adrien Silva’s transfer to Leicester City has been branded “stupid” by the Portuguese’s father Manuel Silva.

Leicester City, with the FA backing them, had recently appealed FIFA’s initial decision over Adrien Silva. However, despite continuous efforts, the International Transfer Certificate has been withheld, with the former Sporting Lisbon facing the prospect of a lengthy spell on the bench.

It all started when the Foxes failed to submit the paperwork on time, missing the deadline by a mere 14 seconds. Though Leicester have since insisted that they had begun uploading the papers before the deadline, FIFA have till refused to listen to what they have to say.

The world cup edging closer too, it’ll be a huge blow to Adrien Silva’s Portugal hopes, shall he be out of action till January. As is the case with the 28-year old himself, his dad Manuel Silva isn’t amused either. While having a go at world football’s governing body, he said:

"“It’s really stupid.“I’ve spoken to Adrien and he feels like someone who wants to play and is prevented from playing for 14 seconds.“FIFA are a Swiss and cold body. FIFA are more concerned with profits than with the players. In this case, they are not worried about the player’s situation.“If it was for a delay of five minutes, we would even admit that we had been wrong.“Now, for 14 seconds, when we know how computers work – it’s impressive.“I think it’s a completely strange thing.”"

Leicester City still have one option with them, which is appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, although it’s not known if they’ll actually exercise that right at all.

For the moment, the East Midlands outfit can find their happiness in the fact that Adrien Silva can at least train with his teammates, a privilege that he had not been previously granted.

The Portuguese international can continue to work on his fitness, and when the time finally comes (January 2018), he can make it into Craig Shakespeare’s XI without there being any more concerns.
