Craig Shakespeare refuses to rule out Bacary Sagna move
Craig Shakespeare has dropped a major hint about Bacary Sagna, as he refused to rule out a move for the former Manchester City and Arsenal defender.
The French international has long been linked with Leicester City, with the Foxes reported to have kept tabs on the 34-year old.
Now manager Craig Shakespeare has confirmed that the club have indeed kept a check on him, though he isn’t sure about what awaits.
Leicester currently have Danny Simpson as their first-choice right-back, though he remains the only decent player at that position. Shakespeare, however, feels that he has enough, although he refused to rule out anything.
Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, he said:
"“We have looked at him before but we haven’t spoken about him recently.“We are aware of the situation. We will look at it and review.“We are not sure of his situation so we would need to follow that up.“We have good defensive cover at the moment and players who can cover in different positions but you always have to make sure that you are aware where the cover might come from if you have one or two injuries.”"
Among the other clubs looking to add Bacary Sagna to their ranks are Serie A’s Torino, though it’s unlikely that the Frenchman would want to take up the Italian challenge at a time when he’s nearing the end of his career.
Sagna has spent a majority of his career in the Premier League, playing seven seasons with Arsenal and three with Manchester City thereafter (a total of 267 appearances), winning the FA Cup and a League Cup during this time. Safe to say, an experienced campaigner like him would be a good back-up for Danny Simpson for Leicester City, who have hardly got an option at the right-back position.

The FIFA World Cup 2018 approaching as well, Bacary Sagna would have a major reason to be back in the Premier League. There being a lot of time to go before Didier Deschamps picks his France squad for Russia, Sagna can give himself another chance to at least be in the mix, and a move to Leicester City could prove to be a step in the right direction for both the parties.
