Jamie Vardy frustrated with “dodgy” season for Leicester City
Jamie Vardy has admitted to being frustrated with a dodgy season for Leicester City so far.
Ahead of their Monday night clash against West Bromwich Albion, Leicester City sit 17th in the Premier League table, struggling consistently to grind out the desired results.
The Foxes have failed to win in five straight games now, with the last game against AFC Bournemouth ending in a lucky 0-0 as well.
For Jamie Vardy, however, it has been an excellent campaign as far as scoring goals is concerned. The England international has netted five goals this season, although none of them have been able to make a difference to the East Midlanders’ fortunes.
Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports, Jamie Vardy expressed his frustration with the same, stressing that his side needs to start getting the points. He said:
"“It’s been a dodgy one to be honest with you. We’ve put in some really good performances and got nothing out of it, and then other times, like Huddersfield away, we weren’t at our best and we got a point out of it.“It’s been frustrating, but we know we’ve got to keep going, and put in some of the performances we did at the start of the season. The points will come.“It is early days in the season. If you look at some of the teams we’ve had to play up to now, they’re all up there, challenging for the title. They’re out of the way now and it’s down to us to start picking the points up.“It’s a points industry and that’s how it has always been. We need to start getting those points on the board.“It’s a World Cup year as well, so I need to be playing well for Leicester, and hopefully if I’m playing well the team plays well too, and pulling us away from the situation we’re in now.”"
Craig Shakespeare has come under a lot of scrutiny for Leicester City’s current mess. The 53-year old began his Leicester tenure pretty well, becoming the first British manager to win his first five league games in charge; however, since his permanent appointment this season, it has only gone downhill.
Jamie Vardy, though, has got no problems with his boss, as he insisted that he is “brilliant”.
"“It was a strange one last season, we couldn’t put our fingers on what was wrong, but come the end of the season we managed to pull ourselves away from the trouble.“He’s brilliant with us. It’s helped him that he’s brought Michael Appleton in as his assistant, and he can sit back more and examine everything, whereas before he was massively hands on.“It’s beneficial for them both, especially with experienced coaches around them.”"
It’s going to be very difficult for Leicester City to get all the three points when they face West Brom, with Tony Pulis’ side themselves going through a barren run.
The Baggies will come to the King Power Stadium fully prepared to do a job at the back, something that they are pretty good at. To beat them, it’ll have to be a humongous effort from Craig Shakespeare’s side.
