Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City in January, according to The Mirror.

As per the report, the 26-year old currently has a £30 million valuation as opposed to the gigantic £50 million price tag that the Foxes had slapped on him back in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the many clubs to have been linked with the Algerian wantaway after he had made his desire to leave public; however, none of the interested clubs except AS Roma made any official approach because of the asking price, and the Spurs were no exception.

If the current rumours are anything to go by, then the latest £30 million tag will almost certainly reignite a lot of the other clubs’ interest in him, chiefly Tottenham’s noisy neighbours Arsenal, who still remain the favourites to sign the 2015/16 player of the year, as they prepare to bid farewell to Alexis Sanchez.

Whether or not can Riyad Mahrez fill the void that Alexis will leave behind is another thing, though, as the Algeria international hasn’t enjoyed the best campaign with Leicester City this season, picking up from where he left off in a horrid 2016/17.

The Foxes winger has contributed a mere two assists in seven appearances across all competitions in 2017/18 and was dropped to the bench against AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Although Riyad Mahrez did show flashes of brilliance after coming on as a sub against the Cherries, performances like the one he put up against Liverpool will raise more and more doubts, especially for someone like Mauricio Pochettino, who demands considerable work rate from all his players.

Surely, not even Arsene Wenger would want to be in a position where he has two Mesut Ozils to defend week in and week out.
