Former Southampton boss Claude Puel has emerged as the favourite for the Leicester City job, as per an exclusive report from ESPN.

The Frenchman has already been interviewed twice by Leicester City, and the club is said to be considerably happy with what he has on offer.

Shall things go the way they are, then it’s highly likely that Claude Puel may take charge in the home fixture against Everton this week, who have themselves sacked Ronald Koeman.

The 56-year old was sacked by Southampton after just one season in charge. The reason behind the sacking, however, remains unknown, since Puel finished eighth and reached the League Cup final as well in what was his first season in English football. Maybe, the Saints were aiming for the Premier League title, after all.

A vastly experienced manager, Puel’s 18-year tenure in management has seen him manage clubs like AS Monaco, Lille, Olympique Lyonnais and OGC Nice, winning one league title during this time as well as leading Lyon to a UEFA Champions League semi-final in 2010.

While not necessarily someone with a winning pedigree, Puel’s experience is what Leicester City have been influenced the most by. Not only would he bring a state of calm at the club, he also promises points, which is all that matters.

For now, Leicester City have a Carabao Cup tie against Leeds United to take care of, as Michael Appleton looks to win his second consecutive game as the Foxes’ caretaker boss, having already beaten Swansea City 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium.
