So here’s the lowdown on Leicester City’s caretaker manager, Michael Appleton:

  • Former player for Manchester United, Preston North End, and West Bromwich Albion.
  • Former assistant manager at West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City (to Craig Shakespeare).
  • Former Oxford United, Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers manager.
  • Current Leicester City caretaker-manager

The Beginning: Manchester United

Originally from Salford in Greater Manchester, the 41-year old began his lifelong footballing career in the seminal Manchester United youth setup from 1992–1994.

By all accounts, he was a tenacious player – a central midfielder by trade with an appetite for a challenge. He was comfortable on the ball and scored a goal or two, too.

After two years there, he turned professional at the age of 19. Appleton only appeared twice in a United shirt before being loaned to Lincoln City (playing four times).

The Mancunian also played on loan at Wimbledon and Grimsby Town.
