Is Claude Puel a good fit for Leicester City?
Unfairly sacked by Southampton?
To many, finishing eighth and getting to a cup final would look like a very successful first season. However, Claude Puel’s final game at home to Stoke City saw his side booed off at the final whistle by a frustrated St. Mary’s crowd.
The league table – as it so often does – lied. Sure, Southampton finished high up the table, but they did so with just 46 points.
It is the highest a team has ever finished in the Premier League era with 46 points. In fact, in only three Premier League seasons would see you finish in the top half with 46 points. Since the 1992/93 season, 46 points averages out at a 12.9th place.
Puel did so generally playing unattractive football too. Despite having lots of possession, Southampton scored just 17 home goals under the Frenchman, their third lowest total in the Premier League.
