Improving players

One of the main positives with Claude Puel is he really does improve the players he already has at his disposal.

At Nice, he turned Hatem Ben Arfa from a Newcastle castaway to a player Paris Saint-Germain among others were clamouring over.

Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens and Redmond all improved tremendously under the Frenchman. Redmond went from being just a tricky winger to a genuine goal threat, while Yoshida and Stephens became Premier League-level center-backs, and good ones too.

Demarai Gray’s eyes will light up at this appointment, who will see himself as a similar player to Redmond before Puel arrived at Southampton.

Gray, along with Ben Chilwell and Kelechi Iheanacho, will be just some of the young players the 56-year old will look to shape and mould into regular Premier League players.
