Is Claude Puel a good fit for Leicester City?
The short-term
Leicester City face Everton on Sunday, another side who recently sacked their manager. Puel will be in charge of the home fixture, while David Unsworth is set to continue as Everton caretaker manager for this game.
The Foxes have had a rough start to the season, which was always plausible when Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are your opponents in the opening seven games.
After Everton, Leicester will host Manchester City in between trips to Stoke and West Ham, so the schedule doesn’t get much easier for the Frenchman.
However, Leicester City were not that bad under Craig Shakespeare. It’s unlikely they will be bad under Puel, and at worse the Foxes will finish in the 11-16th bracket in the league this season, and try again next summer.
Next: Three issues Claude Puel must immediately address
Puel at worst is a streaky manager, and Leicester have been a very streaky club since Claudio Ranieri took over. However, there are enough good players at the club, and Puel is a smart enough manager to make it work.
Leicester City are unlikely to be Premier League champions again any time soon, but they probably won’t flirt with relegation either. Stability is what the club needs, and Claude Puel could well provide that.
