Foxes of Leicester’s Thomas Alderman takes an in-depth look at the adaption Ben Chilwell will make as Claude Puel promotes young players, occasionally placing them in new roles.

Leicester City Youth

Ben Chilwell hails from Milton Keynes, which is just over fifty miles from Leicester. He began his footballing career as a member of Leicester City’s Youth Academy aged just 13, later on winning the Academy Player of the Year at the end of the 2014/15 youth campaign.

The young defender spent five years there before signing a professional contract in 2015.

Senior Career

The 20-year-old understandably didn’t have many chances during his first season and only made one appearance in 2015/16 as both Jeff Schlupp, and Austrian Christian Fuchs acted as fierce competition for the left sided role.

Claudio Ranieri was impressed with the youngster, so he used him during friendlies in pre-season, but even then, he only featured once in the League Cup. Before Ben Chilwell made his English league debut, there had reportedly been bids from Arsenal and Liverpool for his services.
