Study Gareth Bale’s Progression

Another player who’s position was altered stands out in the same manner. Gareth Bale shares some similar attributes with Ben Chilwell, such as vision, intrepidity, pace, take-on capacity, teamwork ethic, tirelessness, not to mention a sweet left-foot.

Bale made his name on the world stage in the UEFA Champions League as a fullback, scoring a hat-trick. He destroyed the Inter Milan backline with incredible velocity, intensity, technique, fearlessness and purely direct football.

The realisation now came that Bale should switch roles to the left/right wing. A similar moment could spark Chilwell’s ultimate progression. There’s great potential in Ben Chilwell if he can examine others who’ve made the transition from a left-back position to that of a forward.

Now, this is not to suggest he can ever be on Bale’s international superstar level; however, with more confidence on the ball and improved end product, the youngster can be a force as a winger/forward for Leicester City.

An aspect which Ben Chilwell could focus on is the Galactico’s belief in his own ability as well as the confidence to try a trick. Additionally, he simply lures a defender in close, trusting his own speed whilst knocking the ball past his opponent and running into space. If it’s in the opponent’s half, it’s not as much of a problem to lose possession. So when Chilwell has a chance, he should cross or shoot without hesitation to increase faith in himself.

Future Capacity

Much can be gained from direct attacking as mentioned with these capabilities. We could definitely see increased assists an goals alongside the extra chances created. This would, in turn, increase Ben Chilwell’s chance of selection as a starter whilst positively impacting the Leicester City team. His end product improvement will materialise with repetition and confidence boosts. The sky’s the limit for this man.
