Former Leicester City striker and cult hero Emile Heskey has asked Riyad Mahrez to get the best out of himself regardless of his desire for a move in January.

Riyad Mahrez had previously come under a lot of pressure from fans and pundits alike because of his apparent lack of interest at Leicester City. The Algerian was particularly criticised following the 2-3 defeat to Liverpool after a disastrous show against the Reds.

The defeat remains the Foxes’ most disappointing since, and Riyad Mahrez’s too. The 26-year old has somewhat improved in the recent games, scoring two goals and assisting three to take Leicester City to 10th in the Premier League table.

Emile Heskey, however, is still not convinced if Mahrez is at his best yet, with the former England striker insisting that he can do a lot more, and that’s only down to him – no one else.

Speaking to 888 Sport, he said:

"“It’s time he got the best out of himself, because at the end of the day it’s about him, isn’t it?“Whether he wants a move or not, he’s still got to produce and go out there and perform.“He’s done that reasonably well, but there’s a lot of onus put on his shoulders because of the performances he has produced in previous years.”"

Heskey also had a lot of praise for Jamie Vardy, who leads the Leicester City scoring charts with six goals from 11 league games, including a brace against Arsenal, and a goal each against Liverpool and Chelsea, further showing his high calibre; though it’s not just the goals that fascinate Emile Heskey.

The former Liverpool hitman told how impressed he is with how Jamie Vardy has different weapons to tackle opposition defenders.

"“They (the opposition) have cottoned on to how to defend against Vardy but he’s still got a lot to offer,” said Heskey.“His game isn’t just about running in from behind.“He can still get it into his feet, turn and run at teams and is just causing all sorts of problems, which is great.”"

You’ve got to agree with Emile Heskey on what he has to say about Jamie Vardy. People are quick to dismiss the Leicester City striker as someone who can only run-in behind, but they don’t see just how much more does he has to offer when he isn’t offered space to operate, something that we see more often than not.
