Former Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare could well return to the Premier League but this time as an assistant to Sam Allardyce at Everton.

The Toffees who have been without a permanent manager since the sacking of Ronald Koeman in October have re-opened talks with Allardyce and he has since become the ideal candidate for the role.

For Shakespeare, he worked with Allardyce during their days at Newcastle as well as during the latter’s short tenure as England manager.

The appointment would also see the former Leicester boss reunite with ex-head of City recruitment Steve Walsh, who is currently the Director of Football at the Merseyside outfit. They both share the same agent, Walsh’s brother Mickey.

Having been assistant to Claudio Ranieri in the 2015/16 Premier League title-winning season, Shakespeare took charge and oversaw his City team to 12th place and a Champions League quarter-final.

However, after taking six points from their eight opening games this season, Shakespeare faced dismissal despite only being four-months into his new three-year-deal and leading City to Premier League survival last time round.

Although he encountered a difficult opening to the campaign with fixtures against Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool which hardly helped Shakepeare in the long run, Leicester’s owners still expected to watch their team record more than only one league victory.

Just before now manager Claude Puel got the job, Allardyce was amongst a plethora of names heavily linked with the Leicester post.

Whether Allardyce will take the helm at Goodison Park remains to be seen but for Shakespeare the managerial merry-go-round will most certainly continue in full swing.
