After a run of three games without a win, Leicester City overcame Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Tuesday in a performance hailed by manager Claude Puel as the best yet.

Jamie Vardy opened the scoring with a fantastic lob over Hugo Lloris following an exquisite Marc Albrighton ball.

While Riyad Mahrez let fire from 20 yards with a top corner finish, Harry Kane scored his eleventh goal against Leicester as a consolation for the visitors.

The Foxes had lost leads against both Stoke and West Ham previously and after a chaotic final 10 minutes, they managed to put the trend to an end with an emphatic win.

The victory puts the Foxes into the top-half of the Premier League for the first time this season although things could change with another round of fixtures to play on Wednesday.

The Frenchman feels the win gives them the foundation to build and was ecstatic with how his team performed throughout.

"“At the moment I think it is the best performance,” said Puel. “It was promising and encouraging for the future but we need to continue this hard work on the pitch and to continue with a positive attitude we showed tonight.“We can improve a lot with some details. This game was better than the last because we managed the game with quality and in the second half it was difficult to resist against this good team.”"

Despite their first-half lead, Leicester were made to desperately defend the two goal difference.

Vincente Iborra cleared off the line and Kasper Schmeichel provided key saves to prevent Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen throughout.

"“We were under pressure but we kept our calm and tried to play after every recovery and we could have scored another goal in the second half. It was positive for the future,” Puel enthused."

Under the former Southampton boss the Foxes have adopted a new style of play.

They have ventured away from the fast attacking, over-the-top football from predecessors Claudio Ranieri and Craig Shakespeare to a more possession based game.

In Tuesday’s win they saw a passing success rate of 73% with only 16 of their 236 achieved passes going long. A transition Puel is keen upon implementing.

"“We work on this in training and on the video,” he explained.“I think it is a promising game for us because we improve together. It was good football in the first 30 minutes very well.”“We scored two fantastic goals and they see the benefit to play on the floor, to try to play good football. It was a good reward for fantastic football.”"

Tottenham came to the King Power hoping to improve on their inconsistent form following their score draw and  2-0 loss to West Brom and Arsenal respectively.

However the Foxes showed signs of the work they have been putting into training.

"“It was difficult against a great team to keep the result but it shows you get your rewards if you put the effort in and it is a fantastic result for us.”"

Puel now has the chance to maintain the winning streak against Burnley on Saturday as he will hope to close the five point gap separating them from the top seven.
