Newcastle United 2-3 Leicester City: Player ratings
By James Lassey
Leicester City recorded their third successive win on the spin as they came from behind to beat Newcastle 3-2 at St James’ Park.
Joselu opened the scoring with a point blank finish before Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray struck to put the visitors ahead. Dwight Gayle levelled the scores but Leicester came out on top in the last five minutes via an Ayoze Perez own goal.
The late winner means Leicester have beaten Newcastle for the fifth consecutive time. But just how well did the Foxes fare?
Goalkeeper
Kasper Schmeichel – 6.5/10
Not really at fault for either of the goals provided some routine saves and distribution was good.
Defenders
Danny Simpson – 7/10
The full-back had another solid display and looked assured when on the ball. Could have been on the score-sheet with a couple of back post chances but overall rarely put a foot wrong.
Wes Morgan – 6/10
He has definitely had better performances in a Leicester shirt. He struggled early on and should have dealt with the dribbling Gayle for the Magpies first goal.
However following the shaky start, the captain recovered and won some key headers to break up Newcastle attacks.
Harry Maguire- 7/10
Another good display by the England international. Carried out his defensive duties superbly with timely blocks and interceptions.
One special mention for when he was found right by the Newcastle corner flag and took on his man to win a free-kick.
Looking more and more like Franz Beckenbauer with every game.
Ben Chilwell – 8/10
Other than a lapse of composure when he almost sent Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle through with an across-the-box pass.
The 20-year-old advanced well, caused Newcastle problems and is worth his starting place.
