It was Leicester City who had the last laugh as Harry Maguire’s stoppage time heroics meant that the spoils were shared at the King Power Stadium.
Both Leicester City and Manchester United came into the fixture with a Carabao Cup heartbreak behind them, as both the sides exited the tournament in dramatic fashion. With the Foxes in particular needing a Premier League following two consecutive defeats, it was always going to be an enthralling encounter.
Manchester United began the game with the level of intensity and desire that you’d generally expect from them; however, it was Leicester City who took the lead through Jamie Vardy. The 30-year old bagged his 50th Premier League goal, in the process adding another to his rich tally of goals against the big six. Vardy now has 21 goals against the league’s elite, the most by any striker since 2014.
The Reds responded well to Vardy’s opener, scoring the equaliser through Juan Mata right around half-time before the Spaniard netted again in the second-half to turn the game around. The former Chelsea midfielder was surprisingly clinical in a game that saw the visitors miss a number of chances, with both Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard spurring glorious opportunities to seal the three points.
Next: Leicester City 2-2 Manchester United: Three things we learned
It did seem like the game was over when Daniel Amartey received a red card with about 20 minutes still to play, but Manchester United failed to hold on to their lead. Marc Albrighton’s delicious cross found its way to the unmarked Harry Maguire, who calmly slotted it past David de Gea to make it 2-2 and seal a point for Leicester City.
Speaking after the game, Claude Puel said:
"“It’s a good feeling, it’s a good game against a good team.“The sending off was a little harsh but we saw fantastic spirit from the players. They deserved it.“With a positive attitude we stayed in the game and continued to believe in ourselves. It’s fantastic.”“It was difficult but with our positive attitude we stayed in the game and believed in ourselves.“It’s a good result for all of us because the belief keeps going. It’s fantastic for the future.“Now we know if that situation happens again we can score with 10 men against 11, so that’s a good feeling for the future.”"
It wasn’t just Puel who was pleased with the result, with almost all of the Twitteratis expressing their amusement having witnessed a genuinely riveting tie. Here’s a pick of the best tweets:

I’d love to see him given a chance for England. Especially given the midfielders who’ve been capped in recent times. He’s got undeniable end product.
Fabulous turn of pace by the Leicester City mascot “Filbert” to get involved in the celebrations with Harry Maguire & Shinji Okazaki.

Harry Maguire has the biggest head in world football but goes unnoticed at the far post by any member of the Man Utd defence with working legs.

Hard Brexit Harry Maguire putting his body on the line to get a point for his team. Reminds me of some of the battles I fought in Northern Ireland at the height of The Troubles. For Queen & Country (and football club). Up the city!
