An assist and a goal would be enough to make any player stand-out but Mahrez really was the catalyst who changed the game.

Before his goal of the season contender flew in,  the game looked to be fizzling out with the hosts only managing one shot on target prior to his strike.

His brilliance lifted the team and consequently bought the best out of his fellow teammates.

Following his goal, Shinji Okazaki woke up from whatever oblivion he found himself entranced in. Mahrez broke and played a ball around the corner for the Japanese forward to finish but for a foul on the Huddersfield defender in the build up.

He produced an inch-perfect ball into Slimani for his delicious chip and if Puel is to keep the Algerian, he is going to have to withstand a heavy transfer window.

Since the Frenchman’s arrival in Octoboer, Mahrez has scored six goals in his 13 Premier League appearances.

This is a player we ought to keep.
