Leicester City are assessing the possibility of signing Augsburg full-back Daniel Opare, as per the Daily Mail.

The 27-year old, who is out of contract with the Bundesliga club this summer, is reportedly available for a scanty £3 million, meaning that a number of clubs are looking to land him.

Stoke City, West Ham United, Swansea City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all interested in his services and are said to have enquired about the Ghana international. The Potters were leading the race for Opare not long ago, but the recent run of form and the poor results have all put Mark Hughes’ future at the Bet365 Stadium in serious doubt, affecting Daniel Opare’s decision too.

Leicester City have also been looking at other options, namely Benfica’s Andre Almeida, another talented full-back who will give the Foxes just what they want. Almeida, however, has a slightly higher valuation at £9 million and will take some convincing to come to the East Midlands.

While it is still not clear as to who will Claude Puel actually sign, what is certain is that Leicester City do need someone as back-up or maybe as a genuine replacement for right-back Danny Simpson. Although Simpson isn’t the best right-back you’ll likely get, he does the job as well as anyone else, which is what makes him so important for the 2015/16 champions.

Puel has currently been playing Daniel Amartey at right-back in Simpson’s absence, but that’s not necessarily his position, and he isn’t that effective anyway. The Frenchman wouldn’t want to continue with a makeshift defence for too long.
