Manchester City to make £50 million offer for Harry Maguire?
Manchester City are reportedly ready to make a mammoth £50 million offer for Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire, according to The Sun.
As Manchester City prepare for the rigours of the UEFA Champions League’s advanced stages, Pep Guardiola is on the look for a centre-back who can play against Europe’s very best shall there be the need to.
Harry Maguire, hence, has emerged as the top candidate for the Citizens, with a bid of £50 million being readied by league leaders Manchester City, who are romping their way to a third Premier League title.
Leicester City signed Maguire for £17 million from Hull City, and the Englishman has since been one of the Foxes’ best players – certainly the best at the back. Harry Maguire has also worked his way into England manager Gareth Southgate’s good books, making three appearances for the Three Lions.
While a move to Manchester City could potentially increase Maguire’s chances of making it to Russia as part of the England squad for the FIFA World Cup, the fact that Guardiola has a number of other options at his position could also mean that the young centre-back is reduced to a bench warmer.
Furthermore, Leicester City’s struggles at the back have already caused Claude Puel a lot of headache, so it’s unlikely that the Frenchman would like to sell his best defender in the middle of the season, no matter how much money is being offered.
