Besiktas are in talks with Leicester City to sign Islam Slimani, according to Sky Sports.

The Foxes have opened talks with the Turkish giants for the Algerian, with Besiktas president, Fikret Orman, fuelling further speculation with his presence at the King Power Stadium as he watched Leicester City beat Fleetwood Town 2-0 in the FA Cup third round replay. Leicester, however, are yet to comment on the situation.

Islam Slimani arrived at Leicester City in the summer of 2016 for a club record £28 million to strengthen Claudio Ranieri’s title-winning side, though it never really went to plan for the Algerian striker. Although he made 29 appearances across all competitions, he started less than half of those games (13), finding the net nine times (five assists as well) over the course of a generally poor season.

While his first season in the East Midlands still had some respectability to it, the 29-year old’s 2017/18 campaign has been a complete and utter disaster, not necessarily statistically but in terms of the faith shown by the manager. The former Sporting CP hitman has started a mere six games this season (16 appearances overall), netting five times in the process.

Slimani is one of a number of strikers that Claude Puel would ideally like to get off the club’s books. Ahmed Musa, Leonardo Ulloa and Kelechi Iheanacho have all been deemed supplementary to the requirements at Leicester City, making many a few wonder as to why had Musa and Iheanacho been bought for such signicant sums in the first place.
