BBC Pundit Pat Nevin has “exhorted” Liverpool to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

Just a couple of days after Ray Parlour urged Mahrez to consider moving to Arsenal or Chelsea, it’s BBC’s Nevin this time who is keen to see the Algerian light up Anfield. His comments were more or less the after effect of Liverpool’s shambolic showing in the 3-2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup.

The Reds started in typical fashion, taking the lead through Roberto Firmino, but only six minutes later, they had fallen behind to a Jay Rodriguez brace. Despite doing everything they could, they eventually failed to go beyond the fourth round for three seasons running.

Having seen Jurgen Klopp’s side on the night, Pat Nevin was left convinced that Riyad Mahrez is the right successor to Phillipe Coutinho. Speaking on Radio 5 Live, he said:

"“If I was in charge at Liverpool, I’d be banging down Leicester’s door to get him.“Liverpool have huffed and puffed, and they missed the intricate play of Philippe Coutinho to be honest.”"

It’s not long ago that Liverpool had reportedly got in touch with Riyad Mahrez’s representatives to discuss the possibility of a move; however, the Leicester winger is said to have rejected because of his preference for Arsenal, who have signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez.

Soon after, we had fresh reports from James Joyce of The Times, who reckons that Jurgen Klopp is not at all interested in bringing the 26-year old to Anfield in the near or distant future.

As it stands, Liverpool’s priority is AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, not Mahrez, so it’s very unlikely that the Leicester Galactico will move to the Merseyside.
