Manchester City to make £60 million move for Riyad Mahrez
In a shocking turn of events, Manchester City are being tipped to complete a £60 million Deadline Day move for Riyad Mahrez, according to The Sun.
The Citizens have been dealt a heavy blow as the Premier League approaches its decisive end, with Leroy Sane ruled out for two months following an injury he sustained in the FA Cup tie against Cardiff City.
Gabriel Jesus also expected to spend some more time on the sidelines, Manchester City are suddenly short of options up front, and Pep Guardiola has therefore lined up Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez as the man to sort the mess out.
The Algerian has been on the look for a big club since last summer, and despite stating his intentions to leave in an official statement, he hasn’t been able to secure a move away from Leicester City.
Finally, it looks like he may be about to get lucky, with Manchester City ready to pay his enormous fee and the players’ wages. However, standing in Mahrez’s way could be Claude Puel and the club management (again), who won’t want to lose their main man just a day before the transfer window closes without a replacement.
Shall Guardiola somehow pull this deal off, it would quite possibly be the most astonishing transfer of the winter, simply because the league leaders have not once been linked to Riyad Mahrez, with Liverpool and Arsenal in particular being the favourites for the 26-year old.
Next: Andy King could be the next to leave Leicester City
If the reports are true, it could be an extremely busy (and grim) day at the King Power Stadium tomorrow.
