Leicester City manager Claude Puel is keeping a check on OGC Nice striker Alassane Plea, reports L’Equipe – but that’s about it.

According to the French outlet, the Leicester boss is an admirer of the 24-year old, having signed him for Nice back in 2014; however, there’s no suggestion of the Foxes being anyway near making a bid for Plea.

Since signing for the Ligue 1 side, Alassane Plea has netted 33 times and contributed to a further 21 goals in 133 appearances, which, though it’s not a very impressive record, is decent considering that he is still in his early days.

The Frenchman has been a regular feature of OGC Nice this season, too, making 33 appearances and scoring ten goals in the process (five assists).

Primarily a centre-forward, Alassane Plea can operate on the left-flank as well, although he has hardly been deployed on the wing. The versatility definitely makes him worth a try, but the question here is: Do Leicester City need him at all? Succinctly, no.

Leicester City have only just got rid of three centre-forwards in Ahmed Musa, Islam Slimani and Leonardo Ulloa, and with Fousseni Diabate and Kelechi Iheanacho settling in well, there’s no room for another striker in the team. The Foxes do need another winger, but Plea’s not the answer to that requirement either.

This one seems like a rumour at the moment and will probably go into the bin as time passes. Claude Puel knows fully well that Leicester don’t need more forwards, as the priorities lie elsewhere.
