Kelechi Iheanacho has opened up about his tough start to life at Leicester City, saying that it was frustrating to try and come back.

The Nigerian arrived at the King Power Stadium for a reported £25 million from Manchester City, with many a few tipping the young striker to be a huge hit at Leicester City.

However, Kelechi Iheanacho soon sustained an injury in a pre-season fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach, which sidelined him for the majority of 2017. As the 21-year old then returned back, Claude Puel’s faith in the Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki duo, and the emergence of Demarai Gray made it harder for the Nigeria international to make it into the XI.

At one point, it seemed like he may be on his way out of the King Power Stadium, but thankfully for Leicester and Iheanacho himself, things have gradually got better, with Puel investing his faith in him at the expense of Ahmed Musa, Leonardo Ulloa and Islam Slimani, who have all been sent out on loan for the remainder of the season.

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup tie against Sheffield United, Kelechi Iheanacho reflected on just how tough it was for him to fight his way back. Speaking to SuperSport, he said:

"“It was frustrating, like; trying to come back.“You’re signed to a new team and they want you to play, trying to come back, trying to do the rehab with the physios and everything, and everyone was giving their best because I wasn’t fully fit."

Now that he is a regular feature of Claude Puel’s Leicester City, Iheanacho also hopes to score the winner in the FA Cup final (shall they get there), having already set the tone with four goals in his last two appearances in the competition.

"“FA Cup is so important in this country and to the fans, so I’m happy I’m having a good run in the FA Cup so I hope it keeps coming on, it keeps going like that,” he said.“Hopefully, I score in the FA Cup final if we get there and hopefully we will get there."
