Leicester City squad off to Spain to prepare for FA Cup clash with Chelsea
Leicester City are off to Spain to prepare for their FA Cup quarter-final with Chelsea as well as the remainder of the Premier League season.
The Foxes will be training at a warm weather camp near Marbella, Malaga to hold them in good stead when they are up against Antonio Conte’s Blues, who would themselves be willing to give everything in order to secure a trip to Wembley.
The camp will also help them to be ready for one last go at a UEFA Europa League spot, which they might get even if they finish at seventh in the Premier League table and Arsenal win the competition. Write the Gunners off at your own peril.
There’s some time to go before Leicester can think of Europe, though, and what’s ahead is Chelsea’s visit to the King Power Stadium. Here’s Claude Puel on how the trip to Spain would help his side prepare for the big one:
"“It’s a good opportunity for the squad to spend some time together and to make sure we are well prepared both for next weekend’s game and for the final eight Premier League matches of the season.“We want to finish the season in the best way possible and good preparation together is very important to give us the best chance."
"“It’s a long season, which can be difficult for the body and the mind, so I think a different setting, some time together as a squad and a good focus on our work will be good for everybody.“There is a good for the spirit of the group. Hopefully with some warmer weather!“We have excellent staff that have prepared everything for the trip very well”."
Leicester City certainly aren’t lacking in momentum coming into their crunch tie against Chelsea. The East Midlanders recently broke their winless run in style against 20th placed West Bromwich Albion as they came from behind to win 4-1 at the Hawthorns Stadium.
Next: Why Riyad Mahrez should stay at Leicester City beyond next summer
After falling behind to a Salomon Rondon goal, Claude Puel’s side responded soon after with Jamie Vardy scoring what could be Leicester City’s best goal this season. Riyad Mahrez then handed the visitors the lead with a sweet chip over the goalkeeper’s head before Kelechi Iheanacho – who had assisted Mahrez – and Vicente Iborra got on the scoresheet to make it a fine evening.
